Mitigating Losses of Identity

Once again from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. If I happen to lose my business my role changes but I keep important aspects of my identity. For example, if I lose my business I still am the type of person who builds and creates things. If my son can’t play soccer again, he still is the type of person who is mentally tough and loves a physical challenge.

Enjoying Hard Habits- Have to and Get to

From the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. Words me a lot when trying to incorporate Hard Habits into our day. Changing one word can make a huge difference. Instead of having to workout, I get to work out. Instead of making another sales I get to make another sales call.

Atomic Habits- Design Your Environment

I just picked up the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. My plan is to share key insights as I go through the book.  Design your environment for success.  I want to complete 100 pushups a  day, so I have my scorecard right next to my monitor. As a reminder to be grateful, I will place Thank You notes on my desk.

Travel

I visited Puerto Rico last week to watch my son’s World Cup soccer game. Travel always opens my eyes to what we take for granted here in the USA. PR has had many disasters over the past couple years and is still trying to recover. Add to that the fear of COVID and you have a very interesting dynamic on the island. Power outages, pot holes and vacant businesses are common place. The people are resilient and do their best to put on a happy place. My happy face is always on when coming home to the greatest country in the world!

Success

Success leaves clues and I love to interview people to find out get feedback on their path. In most cases, sacrifices are made to each results in certain areas of our life. I just don’t want to sacrifice the wrong things like my time with my wife and family.

Resume Building

I listened to Jon Weece yesterday and he raised a point about living our lives and asked, “Are you building your Resume or Eulogy?” Eulogy items are kindness, compassion, humility, mercy, forgiveness etc. Really made me think about my focus on life. It all starts with faith and leaning on God’s truth communicated through scriptures.

Growing

It is really refreshing when you try something new and it is successful. I brought on a new client to conduct customer interviews and I have really enjoyed working with them. The industry is different but my interview skills are fitting well. Once again, I moved out of my comfort zone to grow. This is not easy but so rewarding!
